Return

A foreigner is obliged to return the residence permit to the authority that issued it when:

• acquired Polish citizenship;

• a decision has been issued to cancel that document;

• a decision was issued to withdraw their temporary residence permit, permanent residence permit, long-term EU resident's residence permit or residence permit for humanitarian reasons;

• the decision to grant them a temporary residence permit, to grant them a permanent residence permit, or to grant them a residence permit for humanitarian reasons has expired by operation of law.

The document must be returned immediately, but no later than within 14 days from the date on which:

• a document confirming the acquisition of Polish citizenship was delivered to the foreigner, or

• the decision to cancel a document, to withdraw a temporary residence permit, a permanent residence permit, a long-term EU resident's residence permit or a residence permit for humanitarian reasons has become final or has expired.

Note: at the request of the holder of the document who returned it, the authority to which the document was returned shall issue a certificate of return free of charge, valid for a period of 30 days.
