In the case of a residence permit issued to a foreigner for residence titles granted indefinitely (permanent residence permit, long-term EU resident's residence permit, residence permit for humanitarian reasons, tolerated stay permit), at least 30 days before the expiry of the validity period of the document held, an application for another residence permit must be submitted.

The authority competent to issue another residence permit issued for holding a temporary residence permit, permanent residence permit or long-term EU resident permit is the voivode competent for the place of stay of the foreigner. In the case of another residence permit issued for a residence permit for humanitarian reasons, the authority competent to issue it is the commander of the Border Guard branch or the commander of the Border Guard facility, competent for the place of stay of the foreigner, while the next residence permit for refugee status or subsidiary protection is issued by the Head of the Office for Foreigners.
