Introduction

An invitation is a document confirming that the foreigner has sufficient financial means to cover the costs:

  • related to the planned stay on the territory of Poland, including the cost of accommodation and food, and

  • of the return journey to the country of origin or residence or the costs of transit to the third country which grants the entry permit.

The invitation is not a document entitling, together with the travel document, to enter Poland or to travel within the Schengen area. The invitation is not a visa, residence permit or other document notified by the Republic of Poland as entitling to enter Poland. It also does not entitle you to work in Poland.

This document can be presented during the application for a visa or during border control at the border of the Republic of Poland. However, this is not a document necessary in the visa process, and the entry of a foreigner into the territory of Poland is not dependent on their possession. If the foreigner can show that they have the necessary means, they do not have to provide additional guarantees resulting from this document.

The guarantor of covering the costs of stay and leaving the territory of Poland by the foreigner, including the costs of issuing and implementing the decision on obliging the foreigner to return, is the inviter. If the inviter fails to fulfil the obligations arising from the issued invitation, then the foreigner, the State Treasury or other entities may assert their claims against the inviter in court proceedings.
