Polish travel document for a foreigner

A foreigner is obliged to return Polish travel document for a foreigner to the authority that issued it when:

  • acquired Polish citizenship;

  • a decision has been issued to cancel that document;

  • a decision has been issued to withdraw their permanent residence permit or a long-term EU resident's residence permit or a residence permit for humanitarian reasons;

  • has received a travel document.

The document must be returned immediately, but no later than within 14 days from the date on which:

  • a document confirming the acquisition of Polish citizenship was delivered to the foreigner;

  • a travel document has been served on the foreigner;

  • decision to:

a. the cancellation of that document,

b. withdrawal of a permanent residence permit or a long-term EU resident's residence permit or a residence permit for humanitarian reasons,

c. depriving a foreigner of subsidiary protection

– became final.

Note: at the request of the holder of the document who returned it, the authority to which the document was returned shall issue a certificate of return free of charge, valid for a period of 30 days.
