Residence card

Document Exchange

The residence card is exchangeable in the case of:

  • changes to the data contained in the document,

  • damage to the document,

  • loss of the document,

  • changes in the facial image of the holder of the document in relation to the facial image placed in the document to an extent that makes it difficult or impossible to identify the holder.

To exchange the document, an application for the replacement of the residence card should be submitted to the locally competent voivode. This application is submitted, as a rule, in person, within 14 days after the occurrence of any of the above-mentioned conditions for their replacement.

However, the requirement to appear in person to submit an application does not apply to minors who have not reached the age of 6 by the date of submitting the application and to persons who have been completely incapacitated. In addition, the requirement to appear in person to submit an application may be waived in particularly justified cases, including due to the applicant's state of health. The application shall be accompanied by up-to-date photographs of the applicant.

A valid travel document must also be presented when submitting it.

The same rules shall apply to the receipt of the said document as shall apply to the receipt of a document issued for the first time.
